In the vast beyond
Of the ravenous night
There’s a floating mirror
To reflect moonlight
As she rises above
To hang in the sky
Gazing at the earth
A tear spills from her eye
Down, down it drops
Like a falling star
Gleaming in the darkness
Toward that mirrored water
Into the pool with a
Splash and a ripple
Tiny waves fanning out
From the center a little
When the ripples smooth
And the glass surface clears
The water again still
To reflect her tears
But the tears of the moon
Have long since dried
Her earth destroyed
All hope has died
